Missing Notes

My complements on a wonderful program! I recently bought a PX-130 with the intent of learning to play.

One thing (that I don't understand) is stopping me: When I play most any MIDI file, occasionally a note (or sequence of notes) is heard in the song but I don't see them on-screen.

(Less important: Oh yeah, and the notes are kinda-small on my hi-res screen (from 9ft away). Any way to increase the size to fill up the height?)

Hi Kevin This issue was raised some time ago on this forum -- see here. The best way, of course, would be to update the software to properly handle any midi file. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get help from people with c++ experience who are also interested in piano teaching aides. I'm 74 and it's been 12 years since I've done any programming. How or why Louis B (apparently a flautist, not a pianist) advanced the work as far as he has is a mystery to me -- and a fine job he's done. Based on the above link it would appear the only recourse is to edit the midi file to adjust its channel assignments for the hands to those currently expected by PB. I have no experience doing this but plan to install the necessary software (a sequencer ?) and give it a go. The other alternative would be to restrict yourself to midi files that do not exhibit the problem. Good luck Allan

Hi Allan,

Thank you for the explanation and the thread link; It did not seem to come up in my earlier search.

I've never edited a MIDI file before but it sounds easer than creating a patch. I do know C++ but very little beyond language syntax, not working in it within the last 6 years. I could post a few bug-reports but right now I'd rather just play. Someday I may attempt to create a patch; when I edit the MIDI files, a common cause may become apparent.   ...still love the software :D

Thank you Louis! I've compiled on Linux into a amd64 deb file (my first time). On install, it complained about already having a newer version. I used what sourceforge listed as the version (6.4.0 I think, should have use the 6.6 in the link but no biggie; un-installed the old and installed my deb; my settings remained). It didn't install the music exercises for whatever reason so I just copied them over afterward. I really like the idea of learning the piano much like learning typing in school, more like a challenging game than a 'lesson'. If I had any complaints about the new features, I guess it would be that the lessons are too short and not very challenging; but I can find others. Even so, I'm loving it. THX
